RESEARCH ASSOCIATES

Tyler Valiquette

Tyler Valiquette is a Ph.D. student in Human Geography and SSHRC Doctoral Fellow at the University College London. He holds a Master's Degree in Political Science from the University of Guelph. Tyler's work focuses on south-south migration, queer migration, and state-led, humanitarian, and local responses to displacement.

Dr.Gerson Scheidwiler

Gerson has a Ph.D. in Communication Policies from the University of Brasilia (Brazil). He is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at York University and member of the Dahdaleh Institute for Global Health Research. His work focuses on human rights, gender policies, communication, migration, and sexual and reproductive health.

Dr. Yuriko Cowper-Smith

Yuriko has a Ph.D. in Political Science and International Development from the University of Guelph, and her work focuses on the intersection of migration, social movements, statelessness, and mass atrocities.

Dr. Corey Robinson

Corey is a lecturer in International Relations in the School of Government and International Affairs at Durham University. Corey holds a Ph.D. in Political Science and a Graduate Diploma in Refugee and Migration Studies from York University. With expertise in migrant smuggling, irregular migration, asylum and global migration governance, Corey’s research has appeared in Geopolitics, Third World Quarterly, International Political Sociology, Security Dialogue, Millennium: Journal of International Studies and in several scholarly volumes.

Ginbert Permejo Cuaton

Gin is a Filipino scholar & a PhD Candidate at the Division of Environment and Sustainability at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. A survivor of Typhoon Haiyan, himself, his research explores resilience from extreme weather events & contemporary crises, post-disaster community development, and climate change adaptation strategies.

ara joy pacoma

Ara is a PhD (Environment, Development, and Sustainability) Candidate at Chulalongkorn University and a research associate at Stockholm Environment Institute Asia Center in Bangkok, Thailand. Her work focuses on climate adaptation, DRR, resilience, and adaptive governance. Ara holds a Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences major in Political Science (cum laude), and a Master’s degree in Political Science.

Sivakamy Thayaalan

Sivakamy Thayaalan is a PhD student in the Department of Political Science at Concordia University. She holds a master’s degree in political science from the University of Western Ontario. She has experience in programmatic roles in non-profit organizations such as War Child Canada and currently works as a research assistant at York University conducting research on topics related to forced migration and disaster recovery.

Genevieve Minville

Geneviève is a PhD student in Critical Human Geography at York University. She holds a Master’s degree in International Development and Globalization from the University of Ottawa and a Bachelor’s in Social Work from Université Laval. Her research interests include the intersection between climate change, disasters, and displacement.

Tegan Hadisi

Tegan Hadisi is a first generation Canadian raised in a Iranian Kurdish household with parents whose roots are deeply connected to grassroots activism. Tegan is completing her MPhil in Development Studies at the University of Oxford. Tegan’s research interests speak to her identity as a Kurdish Iranian woman, to a deeper understanding of the shifting landscape for refugees and migrants within the context of digital technologies, and in interrogating the intersections of ethics and technology.

Timothy is a self-taught artist living in Chicago, Illinois. He works primarily with acrylic paint on canvas and nature photography. Tim focuses his work on social issues and raising awareness, particularly with LTBG+ communities. He believes all art should be meaningful, accessible and evoke thoughtful conversation.

HUMAIRAH Saleem

Humairah Saleem is a first-generation Canadian, born to Sri Lankan Muslim immigrants. She is currently completing her MA in Development Studies at York University. Humairah’s research interest includes studying the relationship between immigrant and refugee legislations and diasporic experiences in the post-colonized West.
